The Milltown Brothers / A long road to a comeback

The Milltown Brothers’ long-awaited comeback album was a really big deal, and we were honoured and delighted to be invited to work with them on the concept and direction of the music video for the title track.

Long Road is a moving, honest portrayal of the commitment, resilience and resolve it takes to maintain a relationship as your lives change and move through different stages. We wanted to capture the raw emotion and purity of the message in a completely stripped back video that focuses on the dynamic of a relationship on a journey through the rough patches into the light.

Our leading actors hadn’t met each other before the shoot but we have to be honest – we were hoping for our own Nick Cave/PJ Harvey Henry Lee love story, as the chemistry between the two was delicious, and it’s this that makes the video so powerful. Lead singer Matt Nelson takes a backstage role – it’s all about our couple as they negotiate their way along the long road…

Storycatcher Andy Hayward also provided original artwork for the Long Road album cover – while he mostly hides his fine art skills under a bushel, he’s also a seriously talented painter.

“It’s always a pleasure to work with such good people. Storycatchers instinctively understand how best to visually illustrate the emotional story you’re trying to communicate.”
